"Bedazzled" embodies all the characteristics of the Coney Island carousel style that reached its peak at the turn of the 20th century. "Her silver dapple coat, flowing gold mane and tail, and sparkling jewels would bring squeals of delight from any child," says creator J.E. Speight, who studied the various styles of the famous early carousels while serving as the head painter on several restored carousel horses in Salem, Oregon's Riverfront Park. Painted Ponies Ceremonial Pony
From The Trail of Painted Ponies. Ceremonial Pony. Made of resin. Measures 6" high.Artist: Cathy SmithCathy Smith is a historian and scholar of the American West. She is also an authentic costumer who has worked on such films as Dancing with Wolves and All the Pretty Horses. Her original Pony was adorned with a Crow woman’s Horse Trappings Outfit, circa 1870s. The keyhole-shaped ornament on the forehead was a classic Crow design, the beaded rosette surrounded with horsehair tassels and wrapped in dyed cotton string. Made to carry a short buffalo lance or captured cavalry sword, the case was fashioned out of buffalo rawhide painted with natural earth pigments.
